POLAND — The Poland Knights varsity and junior varsity football teams, along with family and friends, held their annual banquet last month.
Poland celebrated a season in which the Knights earned the best winning percentage since the inception of football at the school.
After winning their last two games against Winslow and Winthrop, the Knights ended their season with a 4-4 record, barely missing a playoff spot in Western Class C.
The celebration began with parents, players and coaches reflecting on and evaluating pre-season goals and creating new goals for the 2012 season.
Following a potluck lunch, awards were given and the program ended with a slide show, created by parent Karen Whalen, which featured pictures taken throughout the season.
The Knights season was also highlighted by receiving the Good Sportsmanship Banner for Western Class C, which now hangs in the high school gym.
First-year head coach Ted Tibbetts was also a finalist for coach of the year in the conference. The Knights look forward to an active off-season of lifting and speed training in order to continue where they left off.
