AUBURN — Paul W. Rines, 82, of Hartford, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Jan. 6, at the Hospice House on Stetson Road in Auburn, following a prolonged illness.
He was born on March 7, 1929, at Claremont, N.H., the son of James and Dora (Burnap) Rines. He attended primary and secondary schools in Leominister, Mass., and graduated from high school in 1947.
He attended God’s Bible College in Cincinnati, Ohio, and graduated with B.A. and TH.B degrees in 1954 and 1955.
Paul married Maxine Russell from Grinnell, Iowa, at the college in 1954. After uniting with the Church of the Nazarene he pastored Nazarene Churches in Oakland, Maine, Concord, N.H., Auburn, ME, Lynn, Mass., Dalton, Mass., Pitman, N.J., Bath, Maine, and Fairfield, Maine. He retired from pastoral ministry in 1994 but continued to serve in interim assignments as well as pulpit supply ministry for 10 more years. Paul loved to share God’s Word with others and enjoyed reaching out in many ways to minister to those in need.
He found fishing a delight and loved to visit his favorite spots for catching trout.
He was predeceased by his parents, James and Dora Rines, of Lunenberg, Mass.; and by his brother, James, and sister-in-law, Elaine Rines, of Statesville, N.C.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine; two sons, Stephen and wife, Patricia, of Derby, Vt., and Douglas and wife, Faith, of Hartford; one daughter, Sharon Baker and husband, James, of Largo, Fla.; four brothers; five sisters; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
