LEWISTON — Susan K. Stetson, 72, of Lake Street, Auburn, died Friday, Jan. 6, at Central Maine Medical Center after a period of failing health.
She was born in Michigan on Feb. 20, 1939, the daughter of the late Raymond Sarnow and Lorraine Vohla. She graduated from Cony High School in 1956, and entered Farmington Teacher’s College, graduating in 1958.
She was the wife of Burleigh R. Stetson who died in April 2009. Prior to her retirement she worked as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration for more than 30 years.
Mrs. Stetson was past president of the National Association of Federal Employees (Maine Division).
She enjoyed traveling with her husband, camping with her family at Cathedral Pines in Eustis, reading, theatre, her cats, and most of all, spending time with grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She was also an avid crossword puzzler.
She is survived by two daughters, Lisa and her husband, Larry Sokol, of Oceanside, N.Y., and Krystal “Sam” and her husband, Dan Howard, of Auburn; two brothers, Stuart and his wife, Marcella Sarnow, of Padosa Springs, Colo., and Stephen Sarnow of Long Valley, N.J.; three grandchildren, Lazlo Sokol, Darcy Howard and David Howard; and one great-granddaughter, Haylee Farr-Howard.
