FREEMAN TOWNSHIP — A Wilton woman was killed in a single-vehicle accident late Sunday on Route 145 after the vehicle she was driving struck a utility pole, Franklin County Sheriff Cpl. Kenneth Charles said in a news release Monday.

Rebecca Maiuri, 20, died at the scene, Charles said.

The vehicle, a 2000 Buick sedan, was heading south at a high rate of speed and lost control, he said. The vehicle crossed the center line and struck a utility pole, he said.

The utility pole was sheared bringing lines down onto the roadway.

Deputies, Strong and Kingfield firefighters, and NorthStar Emergency Medical Service crews responded to a 911 telephone call at about 10:30 p.m.

The crash occurred south of the intersection of Baker Hill Road and Route 145 in Freeman Township.

Route 145 was closed for approximately 90 minutes during the subsequent investigation. Electrical power was temporarily lost to surrounding communities as a result of the crash.

Charles is investigating and conducting a reconstruction on the accident to determine the cause.
