DERRY, N.H. — Roland E. McMillan, 79, died Friday, Jan. 6, at Parkland Medical Center.
He was born in Rumford, on Aug. 14, 1932, and was the son of Marshall and Bertha Hopkins McMillan. He graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford.
He served with the U.S. Army and had been stationed overseas in Germany. He married the former Mary Durham on April 17, 1954; she died Oct. 9, 2011. They resided for many years in Rumford, where he worked at the paper mill until retirement, and they moved to Eustis, Fla., returning to Derry, N.H. in 2008 to be lovingly cared for by their daughter, Darlene, son-in-law, Steven, and grandsons, David and Dylan Owens.
Survivors include daughter, Darlene Owens and husband, Steven, of Derry, N.H.; sons, Donald McMillan and wife, Kathy, of Diamond Bar, Calif., and Dale McMillan and wife, Debra, of Limerick; granddaughters, Michelle Pelletier of Dixfield and Jill McMillan of Livermore; grandsons, David and Dylan Owens of Derry, N.H., Michael Swett of Chelsea and Patrick Pelletier of Wilton; brother, Ernest McMillan of Woburn, Mass.; sister, Avis Arsenault of Mexico; and six great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife; son, David McMillan, formerly of Wilton, N.H.; and grandson, Steven Owens Jr., formerly of Derry, N.H.
