LEWISTON — After a successful first semester and fall concert, the Youth Orchestra of Lewiston-Auburn is accepting new members for the spring semester.
Rehearsals are from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. Anyone interested in joining may attend the next rehearsal on Jan. 16. Rehearsals will run through May and culminate in a public concert on May 6.
YOLA members range in age from 12 to 17, and all have at least three years experience playing a string instrument. Besides Lewiston-Auburn, student musicians hail from Livermore Falls, Sabattus, Minot and Norway.
YOLA benefits from adult members who play with the group and offer their experience and passion for music. Other adults are welcome to participate.
YOLA formed last fall to provide orchestral concert experience and musical education to young musicians in the area. The group’s fall concert featured music by Aaron Copeland and Antonin Dvorak,
Music for the May concert will be selected by director Linda Vaillancourt of Lewiston, who teaches orchestra and band at North Yarmouth Academy, and conducts the Lewiston High School orchestra. Vaillancourt also frequently performs as a violist in orchestras and symphonies around the state.
