RALEIGH, N.C. — Raymond H. Ferland, 74, of Smithfield, N.C., formerly of Lewiston, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 8, after a short illness.

He was born in Lewiston, Oct. 30, 1937, a son of the late Antonio and Irene (Chabot) Ferland. He was educated in local schools.

Ray worked for many years at Hahnel Brothers as a roofer and at St. Mary’s Hospital as a custodian.

He was a member of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. His passion was old cars and he enjoyed going to car shows. He loved spending time with family and friends. Ray was loved by many and will be truly missed.

He leaves two sons, Antonio Ferland and his fiance, Denise Theriault, of Sabattus and Thomas Ferland and his fiance, Michele Mackenzie, of Litchfield; a grandson, T.J. Ferland of Lewiston; the love of his life, Fran McKenzie of Smithfield, N.C.; two sisters, Aline Lepage and her companion, Roger Bouchard, of Lewiston and Carmen Mathon and her husband, Roger, of Lewiston; a brother, Paul Ferland and his wife, Doris, of Lewiston; close friend, Pete Penula; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
