NOTE: According to an email received at 10 a.m. Friday, the coalition has canceled the roundtable due to adverse weather conditions.

“We will reschedule sometime in the future when Mother Nature is more cooperative,” Carol Emery, the coalition’s Healthy Maine Partnership grant manager, said.

MEXICO — Thursday’s Worksite Wellness Roundtable was postponed by the snowstorm to noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13.

It is hosted by the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition and will be held in the Community Room at the Oxford Federal Credit Union at 225 River Road (Route 2) in Mexico.

“This is a chance to hear the latest wellness ideas, the science behind them and share concerns or challenges work sites may anticipate,” Patricia Duguay, coalition executive director, said by email.

“It is also a chance for work sites to ask questions, share any successes and challenges they may be encountering while creating a healthier workplace.”

The featured speaker is Willow Sherwood of Bangor, executive director of the Wellness Council of Maine.

Duguay said Sherwood will speak about policies and tips that people can use to get their work force moving throughout the day rather than sit all day, which is damaging to one’s health.

“From stretching and simple exercises to policy changes and computer downloads, you’ll get useful information that will help you and your employees get up and move, and the great news is that it won’t cost you a thing,” Duguay said.

Additionally, Carl Costanzi, the 5210 Let’s Go! Program coordinator, will provide a brief overview of how “5210 goes to work.”

Those arriving by 11:45 a.m. will get a demonstration on how to use muve.com for short, “spur of the moment” workouts for health and happiness at the work site, she said.
