FARMINGTON — A Franklin County grand jury indicted a Wilton man on charges that he set his vehicle on fire, filed a false public report and collected the insurance money.
Jesse Herrin, 24, was indicted on charges of arson, theft by insurance deception and filing a false public report.
Investigator Edward Hastings IV from the Maine Office of the State Fire Marshal arrested Herrin in December 2011 on the same charges.
Herrin reported to Wilton police that his 2000 Chevrolet Suburban was stolen on July 12, 2009. Six days later it was found burned off the Ridge Road on the Chesterville, Fayette line and insurance money was collected, Hastings said previously.
Herrin told police that the vehicle was taken from a parking lot across from Rick’s Market on Route 156, Hastings said then.
An investigation was done at the time but new information came to light last year and a new investigation was launched, he had said.
There is probable cause that Herrin participated in getting the vehicle to Chesterville, Hastings said.
The insurance claim cost USAA Auto Insurance about $9,000, he said.
