MONMOUTH — Freshman point guard Taylor Morang made a late 3-point shot to lift Winthrop to a 35-31 victory over Monmouth in MVC boys’ basketball action Friday.
The Ramblers (2-7) were up by one with just under a minute to go. Morang tossed a 3-pointer, and Monmouth never recovered.
Senior forward Tyler Foster assisted with the Ramblers’ offensive effort with 12 points.
Junior forward Billy Cummings recorded three field goals, including one from 3-point range, and five free throws to lead Monmouth with 12 points.
Girls’ basketball
Monmouth 44, Winthrop 23
MONMOUTH — Kylie Kemp scored a game-high 14 points to lead Monmouth to a 44-23 triumph over Winthrop in girls’ basketball.
The Mustanges (6-5) jumped out to an early lead led by Kristine Kahl, who scored 11 of her 13 points in the first half. She also pulled down 15 rebounds. Colby Wilson chipped in with eight points.
Shauna Carlson led the Ramblers (0-10) with seven points.
Mt. Blue 46, Lewiston 33
FARMINGTON — Miranda Nicely sank 14 points to lead Mt. Blue to a 46-33 victory over Lewiston in KVAC girls’ basketball action Friday.
Though the Cougars (6-4) shut down Lewiston’s offense in the second period on a 9-0 run, the Blue Devils (0-10) were scrappy and stayed close in the other three frames.
Brie Wilson recorded 12 points, while Janessa Talarico tossed four field goals for 10 points for Lewiston.
Mt. Blue received fine offensive output from Amy Hilton, who contributed 13 points, six assists and three steals. Gabby Foye chipped in with 11 points in the winning effort.
