PORTLAND — Ron Carroll and Friends will give a concert on Sunday, Jan. 29, benefiting Scott Linscott, 48, a graduate of Edward Little High School and the University of Maine.
A well-known minister and photographer, Linscott is in need of a liver transplant.
Linscott was a pastor in a number of Maine churches during his 25-year career before losing his ability to work in 2011.
He spent numerous years coaching youth sports and mentoring young people. He and his wife of 28 years, Robin, raised three children.
In May 2011, while vacationing in Florida with his wife, he was diagnosed with end stage liver failure, due to non-alcohol cirrhosis of the liver. He has been in and out of the hospital about every 15 days since.
The concert, a tribute to Scott Joplin and Al Jolson, will be at 2 p.m. at the First Parish Unitarian Church, 425 Congress St.
Performing will be Marcelle Lachance, Pam Tondreau, Ashley Smith, Dan Konieczko, Mike Millett and Michael Krohn, along with Carroll on piano. Selections will include “Solace,” “Weeping Willow,” “Peacherine Rag,” “The Entertainer,” “Swipesy” and “The Easy Winner.”
Among the songs the cast will sing are “Just a Closer Walk with Thee,” “Jesus in the Morning,” “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hand,” “I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy,” “Grand Old Flag,” “California Here I Come,” “My Man,” “Can’t Help Loving Dat Man of Mine” and “What a Wonderful World.”
Tickets, $10, may be purchased at Hannaford Supermarket in Brunswick and at the door. In the event of a snowstorm, the concert will be held on Feb. 12, same time and place.
All proceeds will go to Linscott, through the National Transplant Assistance Fund, to support liver transplant expenses and those not covered by insurance.
