OXFORD — Kendric M. Scribner, 85, of Oxford, passed away suddenly Tuesday, Jan. 17, at his home, where he resided with his wife, Amy.
Mr. Scribner was born Sept. 6, 1926, to Guy Bernard and Addie Flora Nile Scribner in Rumford. He graduated from the eighth-grade from Minot schools in June 1942. He then worked in the woods with his Dad and team of horses.
He served on the USS Providence in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Gail Curtis in November 1949. Together they settled in East Bethel, where they raised their children, Paul Alan, Gilda Elaine and Jeffrey Dean. Ken worked at the Rumford Mill, retiring after 26 years. He continued painting neighbors’ houses and helping with their yard work well into retirement.
Ken was an avid reader and was known for his prolific gardens. He enjoyed being active, apple and berry picking and cutting firewood. Simply said, he loved work. Kendric was also a 52-year member of the American Legion.
Following the death of his first wife, Gail, in 1987, Kendric married Amy Cummings Rugg in June 1995. The two enjoyed canoeing, hiking, old time dancing, playing canasta, yodeling and most of all the extensive family they shared.
Ken is survived by his wife of 16 years, Amy; his daughter, Gilda Clark and husband, Dan, of Bend, Ore.; son, Jeffrey Scribner of Upton; sisters, Charlotte and her husband Gerald, Harriet Hay and Patricia Curtis; a brother-in-law, Richard Rose; granddaughters, Lindsay Morgan and husband, Ben, Stefanie Clark and Crystal Hall; grandson, Kris Hall; great-granddaughter, Brianna Morgan; and many nieces and nephews.
