RUMFORD — Jake Theriault lit the boards for seven points in overtime to lift Mountain Valley to a 67-61 overtime victory over Madison in an MVC boys’ matchup Thursday.
Theriault led the Falcons (6-4) with 31 points, including four shots from beyond the arc. Zak Radcliffe chipped in with 22 points, while Ryan Nicols added 10.
The Bulldogs (5-6) were paced by M.J. Flanders with 18 points, while Austin Kane tallied 14 and Mathew Soucy added 13 in a balanced attack.
Boothbay 55, Monmouth 26
BOOTHBAY — After sprinting out to a 14-point advantage in the first frame, Boothbay raced away to record a convincing 55-26 win over Monmouth in an MVC boys’ matchup Thursday.
Ben Dickinson led Boothbay (9-2) with 12 points, the Seahawks’ only player in double figures.The Mustangs (2-9) were paced by Billy Cummings with eight points, while Scott Peacock added six.
Dirigo 70, St. Dom’s 32
DIXFIELD — Dirigo erupted for 24 points in the first frame and raced away to record a 70-32 victory over St. Dom’s boys’ action Thursday.
Cody St. Germain and Ben Holmes led the undefeated Cougars (11-0) with 16 points apiece, while Josh Turbide’s three 3-pointers gave him a nine-point tally.
The Saints (4-7) were paced by Joe Bryant with a six-point effort, while Tom Applegate added five.
Dirigo held a 36-14 advantage at the half and was never challenged.
Hall-Dale 58, Lisbon 41
LISBON — Brad Shepherd scored in 16 points and Hall-Dale held Lisbon to just 14 points in the first half as the Bulldogs chased away the Greyhounds with a 58-41 victory in a boys’ basketball game Thursday night.
The Bulldogs (9-2) erupted with 19 points in the final quarter to shelve Lisbon (1-10). Tucker Brannon led the Greyhounds with 11 points.
Girls’ basketball
Rangeley 52, Kents Hills 30
RANGELEY — After a surprise effort by Kents Hill that kept it within two points in the opening frame, Rangeley used a 13-6 run in the second quarter and pulled away to record a 52-30 victory in a non-conference matchup Thursday.
Emily Carrier led Heidi Deery’s Lakers (10-1) with 14 points and seven assists, while Seve Deery-DeRaps chipped in with 11 points.
Talented freshman Taylor Esty also contributed with nine points and seven rebounds, while Blake Morin added nine points and six rebounds.
Men’s basketball
Husson 67, UMF 64
BANGOR — In a tight contest culminating in a wild finish, the University of Maine at Farmington came out on top beating Husson, 67-64, in a men’s basketball game at a packed Newman Gymnasium on Thursday night.
UMF remains in first place in the North Atlantic Conference with an 8-1 conference record (8-7 overall), while the Eagles drop to 5-10 on the season (5-4 NAC).
Husson’s junior guard Eric Modica dropped a game-high 17 points.
Mike Gonzales added 12, including 6-for-7 from the line, while Marc Zaharchuk turned in a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
For Farmington, Pet Sumner and Kevin Leary scored 14 apiece. Dan Kane scored 13 to go along with eight assists, while center Ben Johnson dropped in 12 points and pulled down nine boards before he was given the early exit.
Women’s basketball
CMCC 67, NHTI 60
CONCORD, N.H. — Central Maine Community College led the entire game en route to a 67-60 victory over rival New Hampshire Technical Institute in a women’s basketball game on Thursday evening.
Maggie Sabine of Sabattus led CMCC with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Teira Durgin of Hebron contributed with 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and eight steals. Danielle McCusker and Ariel McConkey of Fryeburg scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.
With the win, the Mustangs improve to 8-7 and 5-4 in the Yankee Conference. The Mustangs will be back in action Monday when they host the University of Maine at Augusta.
Hartford 64, Maine 52
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The University of Maine made a late run, outscoring Hartford 14-4 in the final three minutes, but ran out of time as the Hawks took the America East contest 64-52 on Thursday evening at Chase Arena.
The win moves Hartford to 11-9 and 2-4 in the conference while the Black Bears fall to 4-15, 1-5 in league play.
Samantha Baranowski set a new career-high in scoring for the second game in a row as the senior forward tallied a game-high 19 points with six rebounds, earning her Maine’s America East Player of the Game nod.
Ashleigh Roberts tallied double-figures for the fourth game in a row as she chipped in 15 points off the bench for the Black Bears.
Nikkia Smith and Daphne Elliott each netted 15 points to lead the Hawks’ attack.
Husson 70, UMF 58
BANGOR — The Husson women’s basketball team put away the University of Maine at Farmington, 70-58, at Newman Gymnasium on Thursday night.
Husson’s Brianna Hanscom led the way, scoring 14 points and pulling down led seven rebounds.
Stephanie Comstock was close behind, scoring 13 and pulling down six rebounds. Kelli Murray rounded out the leading scorers with an even 10 points.
For the Beavers, Emma Morrison led all scorers with 16 points and was a perfect 10-10 from the charity stripe.
Lindsay Ranquist was the other Farmington player to reach double digits by scoring 11, while center Paige Saunders just missed a double-double, scoring eight points to go along with a game-high 10 boards.
