POLAND — Senior forward Ricky Bryant drained a game-high 18 points to lead Poland to a comfortable 57-35 victory over Lake Region in WMC boys’ basketball action Friday.
The Knights (7-5) went on an 11-0 run in the third quarter to leave no doubt about the eventual outcome.
Logan Nichols contributed 11 points, while Jeb Quint, Nate Rybeck and C.J. Martin provided eight points each for Poland.
Senior forward Alex Hartford paced the Lakers (3-12) with a team-leading 11 points in the losing effort.
Leavitt 65, MCI 46
TURNER — Senior forward Jordan Hersom notched a double-double with 24 points and 16 rebounds to lead Leavitt to a 65-46 victory over Maine Central Institute in KVAC Class B boys’ basketball contest Friday.
The Huskies (3-9) were leading 25-21 at the midpoint. But, the Hornets (9-3) clamped down on defense in the third quarter and ratcheted up the offense.
Senior center Jerry Chen scored 10 of his 16 points in the first half for MCI as Levi Morin helped the Hornets shut him down in the second stanza.
Tyler Walton contributed nine points with five rebounds, six assists and three teals for Leavitt.
Andrew Middleton also chipped in with nine points.
Edward Little 64, Mt. Ararat 36
AUBURN — Junior forward Quin Leary ripped 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists to craft an Edward Little 64-36 victory over Mt. Ararat in KVAC boys’ basketball action Friday.
Though 3-point shooting kept the Eagles (0-12) in the game in the first half, the Red Eddies (7-5) kicked up the defense in the second half for a more decisive stanza. Omar Haji-Hersi contributed 10 points for Edward Little.
D.J. Cole and Alex LaPierre had three field goals, including two from beyond the arc, each for Mt. Ararat in the losing effort.
Spruce Mountain 49, Monmouth 18
MONMOUTH — Spruce Mountain sprinted out to an 18-8 lead after the first quarter and cruised to a 49-18 victory over Monmouth in an MVC boys’ basketballgame Friday.
Spruce Mountain put the clamps down on defense, allowing just three points in the second quarter, carrying a 27-11 lead into the half.
The defense continued as the Phoenix outran the Mustangs 15-4 in the third
quarter and only allowed another three points in the final frame for the convincing victory.
Senior Jake Bessey led all scorers with 13 points, including a pair of 3-pointers for Spruce Mountain (10-2). James Barker followed with 10 points and Zach Bonnevie chipped in with eight.
Monmouth (2-10) was led by Ben Woodman’s four points.
