RUMFORD — A benefit for Greg Arsenault will be held at 49 Franklin in Rumford on Saturday.

Arsenault, who has spent years giving to his community, has faced difficult times, including being hospitalized and on life support for three days.

Arsenault and his wife, Norma, had owned and operated Maddy’s Pizza in Mexico for years but was forced to close the restaurant after he was in the hospital.

Norma had said the reason for closing the business was due to tough economic times, competing food chains and hospital bills.

Maddy’s Pizza was known throughout the community for its donations for benefits in the area.

Scot Grassette, who donated his function hall at 49 Franklin for the benefit, said, “I’ve been involved with benefits with music and magic since high school. Maddy’s has always given gift certificates for all of them. We figured if anyone deserves a fundraiser, it’s them.”

Arsenault lost his health insurance after his hours were cut back at his job as recreation director for the town of Mexico.

The benefit starts at noon Saturday with a Chinese auction and a 50/50 raffle, event organizer Kim Chiasson said.

The live auction will start at 7 p.m. and a dance will be held shortly after with music by Grassette Entertainment.

There is a $5 donation for the dance, and food will be served with a portion of the proceeds going to the Arsenault family.

Also on Friday, Chisholm’s Tavern on Congress Street in Rumford will donate all its proceeds from their $5 cover charge that evening to Arsenault.

Anyone interested in donating items for the Chinese auction or volunteering for the benefit is encouraged to call Kim Chiasson at 364-7953.
