NEW GLOUCESTER — Burns & McDonnell, headquartered in South Kansas City and with an office team in New Gloucester, has been named by Fortune Magazine’s 2012 annual list of the “100 Best Companies to Work For.”

In its second time on the annual listing, Burns & McDonnell ranked 26 on a list of companies that annually includes some of the most well-known names in corporate America.

According to the magazine, the driving factor for companies making this year’s list was their track record at creating jobs and in open, transparent communication with employees. The Fortune ranking is determined by the Great Place to Work Institute, which oversees a comprehensive survey and evaluation process. Two-thirds of a company’s score comes from the trust index that is derived from surveys returned by employees. The remainder of the score is determined by the culture audit, an analysis of company policies.

During the past five years, Burns & McDonnell has added more than 1,300 positions to its nationwide work force and has announced plans to add 1,000 additional jobs by year-end 2013.

A team of more than 70 workers in New Gloucester provides program management services for the Maine Power Reliability Program.
