LEEDS — The Kennebec Land Trust will host an afternoon of winter fun at the Curtis Homestead Conservation Area, the childhood home of Rebecca Curtis Meredith and former Maine Gov. Kenneth M. Curtis. The event will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28.
Participants should bring their own cross-country skis, snowshoes and sleds to the 360-acre conservation property. Volunteers will be available to help beginners with skiing or snowshoeing in the 10-acre field or on one of the adjoining trails. Hot chocolate and snacks will be served around a bonfire in the field.
The farm is on the Bog Road in Monmouth off Route 202.
Those wishing may hike or snowshoe the Perkins Woods in Wayne with land trust stewards Stan and Jane Davis at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18. The property has a number of features, including a stand of white pines and hemlocks, pitch pines and 2,700 feet of shoreline on Androscoggin Lake.
Normally, public access is only from the lake side, but the trust has permission to walk in through Camp Androscoggin. Hikers will follow a loop trail, which will take them around the 14-acre property, meeting at the entrance of the camp. Snow date will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19. The camp is off Route 133 by the Corner Store in Wayne.
The trust will host a snowshoe trek of Jamies Pond in Manchester at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4.
Tom Bartol and Barbara Moss, KLT stewards, will lead a snowshoe or hike at the Jamies Pond Wildlife Management Area. All levels and ages are welcome. For more information, contact Tom Bartol at bartol@gwi.net. The event is part of the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend.
Hikers should meet at the end of Meadow Hill Road, Manchester. It is being co-sponsored by the Manchester Conservation Commission.
