Gregoire leads Chiefs

The Lewiston Chiefs U18 Midget hockey team defeated Bangor 7-2 this past weekend.

Alex Gregoire registered a hat trick in helping Lewiston improve its record to 2-2-1. Donnie Kellough chipped in with two goals, while Nick Gilbert and Nick Perreault added one apiece.

Luke Olehowski recorded three assists with Kellough and Kevin Shrader also providing helpers.

Josh Ehiorobo recorded the win in goal for the home team. The Chiefs, sponsored by Roopers Beverage, travel to Manchester, N.H., this coming weekend for a match with the Jr. Monarchs.

Renegades play rugged pair

The Maine Renegades Peewee 2 team went 0-1-1 in Saturday’s Valley Hockey League Action.

The first game was a 4-3 loss to Arlington, MA. The Rens were ahead for a good part of the game but could not hold off the strong attack from their opponent, which scored the go ahead goal with 1:44 left.

Caden Smith, Cam Niven, and Casey Cloutier scored for the Rens. Collecting assists were Colby Anton (two), Niven Smith, and Junior Mathon.

Game two was a 2-2 tie with North Reading, Mass. After falling behind 1-0 in the second period, the Rens scored two second-period goals to take the lead.

North Reading kept the pressure on and finally tied the game with 3:03 left. The Renegades defense then took control for the remainder of the game.

Smith and Cloutier scored the goals for the Renegades while Cam Audette, EZ Cormier and Chase Locke had assists.
