LISBON – A 20-year-old Leeds man, Nicholas J. Parent, was listed in stable condition Friday after emergency surgery for injuries suffered in a head-on crash on Route 9 on Thursday afternoon.

The driver of the second vehicle, Tracy A. Ames, 44, of Sabattus was transported to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston by Durham Fire and Rescue, where she was treated and released.

Lisbon police Chief David Brooks said Parent, who has an outstanding warrant on a charge of domestic assault, has been charged with operating under the influence, driving to endanger and violation of condition of bail.

According to witnesses, Parent was driving erratically at a high rate of speed in the Sabattus town line when he veered into the path of Ames’ southbound vehicle and the two collided head-on.

Parent immediately jumped from his vehicle, fled on foot and was “chased down” and detained by several bystanders before police arrived at the scene, Brooks said.

He was transported to the police station by Brooks, where Parent collapsed during questioning.

Lisbon emergency responders transported him to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where it was determined he suffered internal injuries and was taken to surgery, according to Brooks.

The investigation by Officer Jeff Picard continued Friday. Parent’s 2001 Chevrolet and Ames’ 2011 Chevy Tracker were demolished in the 4:22 p.m. crash.
