LEWISTON — Christina Berry said she thinks the city needs to appeal more to younger residents.

“Many of the people I’ve known are moving out of state, and we need to stop that,” Berry said. “Part of it is jobs, but part of it is just having things to do. We need more activities for younger people in Lewiston-Auburn. You should not have to drive for more than an hour just to find something interesting to do.”

Berry, 25, of 13-1 Dupuis Ave. thinks she can help change things as a city councilor. She’s one of three candidates seeking the council seat for Ward 4.

Berry said she’s always been interested in politics and told herself she needed to get involved.

“But I didn’t know where to begin or how to get started,” Berry said. “Then I saw what happened with Doreen and figure, you have to start somewhere.”

Berry said she does have some familiarity with politics. She was a member of the student government at University of Southern Maine, serving as president and vice president during her time there. She eventually graduated with a degree in leadership and organizational studies.

She’s also a 2004 Lewiston High School graduate, who works currently as shift supervisor in Rite Aid in Auburn. She’s also volunteered with the Western Maine Community Action Health Services.

“I consider myself to be an honest, hardworking person who is willing to help out,” Berry said. “I have a big heart, and I’m willing to help out any way that I can.”
