DEAR SUN SPOTS: Could you tell me why we have music — if you call it music — as a background on our TVs. It’s very hard to listen to the people on the TV show.

We never had that on our old TVs. Why do we have it on our HD TVs? It has no purpose to it. — A.S., Lewiston

ANSWER: You should not be hearing music in the background of regular TV shows, such as the news. Some movies and dramas might have background music, but it would not be constant or play over people speaking.

Sun Spots can’t figure out how you could be getting both one of the music stations available via cable/satellite and a regular program at the same time, but that is a possible cause for your problem.

You did not tell Sun Spots which provider you use, so she can’t check with those companies, but you should. One of the many settings may be misaligned. A technician can spot it for you and end those musical annoyances.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Can you find out how to get in touch with the TV program “Extreme Makeover?” There is a family who really is in need of a new home and an uplift in life, as they have had so many heartbreaking health problems and misfortunes in life. — No Name, No Town

ANSWER: Sun Spots regrets to inform you that “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” has been canceled. According to hollywoodreporter.com, ABC will air four specials, but the regular season is over. Apparently it struggled to find an audience.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Can you tell me why “Miltonaire” is keeping the same people on a second time? — B.B., Bethel

ANSWER: Sun Spots is confused. She cannot find any TV show called “Miltonaire.” There is a website, miltonaires.com, but it appears to be a site for expensive jewelry.

If you are talking about “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” then all Sun Spots can think of is that you are seeing reruns. Many TV shows take a hiatus between Thanksgiving and the first of the year, when people are busy with family and shopping, and may shows are in reruns. She cannot imagine they would give contestants a second chance to win the big bucks.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Could you get the address of the bounty hunter Dog? I love to write to him. Thank you. — B. Smith, Rumford

ANSWER: Nearly every celebrity on the planet has a website where you can contact them, not to mention Facebook pages as well as various fan sites. Finding a traditional U.S. mail address, however, is a bit more challenging. “Dog the Bounty Hunter” is on A&E, so Sun Spots suggests you try sending your letter in care of their corporate offices at 235 East 45th St., New York, NY 10017.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Can you find out the name of the man on TV from Rumford who had the back operation? His first name is Ted and the doctor’s name was Beebe. I would like to talk to him before I decide to have mine done. — P.B.L., Bethel

ANSWER: Sun Spots did not get any hits on Google based on the information you gave her. She would need to know more to complete the search. Maybe readers can fill in the holes for you. Or maybe the man from Rumford will see your letter and write Sun Spots.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have watched News 8 since 2005. I really enjoy the newscasters and the stories. My question is: What happened to Tom Chisholm? I knew he had an accident and was walking with a cane.

Also, I noticed Tracy Sabol is not wearing her wedding ring. Are she and Greg still together? — C.G., Lewiston

ANSWER: Tom Chisholm resigned from Channel 8 after his accident. He came back for a while after his moped accident, but then left permanently early in 2011.

As for Tracy, Sun Spots does not know who Greg is, but according to her bio on WMTW.com: “Tracy lives in Falmouth with her son Chase and daughter Logan.”

NOTE TO READERS: Sun Spots gets a lot of letters from readers who want to know personal information about local TV news personalities, such as their marital status and pregnancies.

Recently, some of these individuals have told Sun Spots they no longer wish to provide this information for personal safety concerns. Sun Spots can understand that; she has always felt a bit squishy asking those questions.

So from now on she will limit information to what already appears online, such as the biographical blurbs provided about newscasters on their station’s website. If your question isn’t answered, it’s because the information isn’t available online.

This column is for you, our readers. It is for your questions and comments. There are only two rules: You must write to the column and sign your name (we won’t use it if you ask us not to). Please include your phone number. Letters will not be returned or answered by mail, and telephone calls will not be accepted. Your letters will appear as quickly as space allows. Address them to Sun Spots, P.O. Box 4400, Lewiston, ME 04243-4400. Inquiries can also be e-mailed to sunspots@sunjournal.com.
