Texas hold ’em

HARRISON — The Harrison Lions Club will hold a Texas hold ’em tournament from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at the VFW Hall, 176 Waterford Road.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Space is limited to 100 players.

The entry fee is $55. Proceeds will be used to provide services to the community.

Clam supper

OXFORD — The annual fried clam supper put on by the Rock-O-Dundee Riders Snowmobile Club of Oxford, is Saturday, Feb. 4, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. It will be held at their club house on Paine Road in East Oxford.

The Lost Gull Restaurant in Welchville will donate its time and expertise, as well as some supplies and equipment which make it possible for the group to serve fine, fresh seafood that night.

The menu is French fries, clams, haddock, shrimp, chicken fingers, coleslaw, rolls, dessert and a beverage. A combo of two will be available. There will be take out service but no phone calls. Everything will be on a first come-first serve basis.

The groomed ITS89 snowmobile trail goes right by the club’s door so coming by sled is an option.

Supper, dance

PARIS — A chicken pie supper and dance will be held Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Legion Hall, Church Street.

Supper will be served from 5 to 6 p.m. The cost for supper is $7. The dance will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Music will be provided by Jones Dance Band. The cost for the dance is $5.

Dances will also be held from 7 to 10 p.m. on Feb. 11, 18 and 25, with music by Jones Dance Band. The cost is $5.

Craft fair

PARIS — The Thrifty Gift Shop will participate in a Valentine craft fair to benefit the local food pantry from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at the fire station.

Brand name clothing for all ages and sizes will be sold. Brands include Eddie Bauer, Coogi, Sean John, Aeropostale, The Children’s Place and L.E.I.

Clothing includes Valentines clothing and new shirts for men from New York, sizes large to 6X.

Mediumship talk

HARTFORD — Pinpoint of Light Spiritualist Center, Hartford Town Hall, 1190 Main St., will present “Mediumship, A Gift of the Spirit,” throughout the month of February. On Feb. 5 at 10:30 a.m., the public is invited to explore and discuss mediumship in history.

A medium is one whose organism is sensitive to vibrations from the spirit world and through whose instrumentality, intelligences in that world are able to convey messages and produce the phenomena of spiritualism.

A psychic has the ability to tune in to the mental and emotional states of others, sometimes described as mind-to-mind communication. While a medium uses psychic abilities in communicating with spirit, not all psychic phenomena is spirit communication. Socrates Cafe

WATERFORD — A Socrates Cafe gathering will be held at the Waterford Library on Monday, Feb. 6, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month. The group offers a forum to discuss current topics and ideas in a warm, friendly atmosphere, where divergent views will be welcome.

The topic for the February meeting will be “Is The Earth Overpopulated With Humans?” The moderator will be Sally Chappell.
