DIXFIELD — Following a 30-minute executive session Monday night, the RSU 10 board voted to extend Superintendent Thomas Ward’s contract until June 30, 2015.

Ward has been the superintendent of the Western Maine Foothills Regional School Unit 10 since SADs 21, 39 and 43 merged several years ago. Prior to that, he was the superintendent of the former SAD 21, based in Dixfield, for several years.

Ward’s salary will be set when the budget development process is under way. It starts at the next board meeting set for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Central Office in Dixfield. Budget presentations will be given by the principals of Dirigo middle and elementary schools, Mountain Valley Middle School, Rumford Elementary School, Meroby Elementary School, Hartford-Sumner Elementary School, and Buckfield Junior-High School.

Tentative plans call for board adoption of a 2012-13 operating budget in April, and votes by district residents in late May and June.

The current year’s budget is $34.2 million.

In other matters Monday night, Buckfield Junior-Senior High School nurse Erin Wainwright was appointed coach of the Dirigo High School junior varsity softball team, and Ken Farrington was appointed the Buckfield Junior-Senior High School varsity softball coach.
