FARMINGTON — Guests at the Warming Centers are busy preparing an array of “crafty items” for a basket raffle to be held at the upcoming Warm Hearts-Warm Homes dance to benefit the Farmington Area Ecumenical Ministry heating oil assistance fund.
The dance will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the North Dining Hall of the student center at the University of Maine at Farmington. With a classic Hollywood theme, it will feature the music of Shepherd’s Pie, comedy with the improv group, Teacher’s Lounge Mafia, and the music of the Mount Blue Voices. People are welcome to come dressed as their favorite Hollywood stars.
Warming Centers are held Tuesday at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church through Feb. 14 and on Thursdays at Old South Congregational Church. Guests share their favorite hobbies and crafts, and will share their bounty with others in the community.
Raffle items include a hand-tied fleece comforter, a knitted hat and scarf set, matted and framed artwork, hand-painted note cards and home-baked goods.
A handmade quilt, donated by Suzie Millett to the United Way of the Tri-Valley Area, will be the grand-prize raffle item. All money raised will go to support the EcuHeat Fund.
A giant mural painted last year by many guests from the Warming Centers will be on display at the dance.
The Tuesday Warming Center will change from Henderson to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church beginning Feb. 21; Thursday Warming Centers will stay at Old South Church. Both centers will continue through March.
