FARMINGTON — A Jay man was sentenced Wednesday to serve 45 days in jail and pay a $250 fine after he pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a roadblock last year.

Edward E. Barbioni Jr., 29, pleaded guilty to passing a roadblock, failing to stop for an officer and operating while license is suspended or revoked in Franklin County Superior Court.

In the plea agreement with the state, charges of attaching false plates and driving to endanger in that case, and a charge of trafficking in marijuana at the jail after he turned himself in on a warrant in September, were dismissed.

Justice Michaela Murphy sentenced Barbioni to 45 days for passing the roadblock and another 45 days for failing to stop for a police officer. The sentences are concurrent. He was ordered to pay a $250 fine for the operating-after-suspension charge.

He was given a stay of execution until March 2 to turn himself in to the Franklin County jail in Farmington.

Assistant District Attorney James Andrews said if the case had gone to trial, Jay police officer Russell Adams would have testified he tried to stop a speeding Mercury Sable on Route 140 in Jay near the Canton line on July 28, 2011. Police Chief Larry White Sr. would have testified that Barbioni went around a police roadblock and eventually stopped at his father’s house on East Dixfield Road and fled into the woods.
