JAY — A Chesterville man faces charges for closing a woman’s arm in a car window and driving around a parking lot before she could break loose.

Officer Michael Mejia arrested Nathanael Couture, 25, late Wednesday afternoon near the Jay Highway Department garage, Sgt. Troy Young said.

Couture was arrested on charges of domestic violence/reckless conduct and violation of condition of release.

The man and woman were arguing over custody of a child in the parking lot of the Dollar Tree at Jay Plaza, Young said.

The woman reached inside the vehicle through the window to open the door to get a toddler, and Couture shut the woman’s arm in the window, he said.

He drove around the lot in front of the store for at least 100 feet before she could break away from the car, Young said.

Young met with the victim in the parking lot and spoke to witnesses.

“Thank God, there were good citizens to provide accurate statements of what happened,” he said.
