JAY — Four people were taken to hospitals in Farmington and Lewiston on Friday afternoon after a car and a pickup truck collided on Route 133.

Nicholas Osgood, 28, of Wilton, and his passenger, Katherine White, 27, of New Sharon, were taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Jay police Sgt. Troy Young said.

Osgood complained of arm pain and White, who had to be extricated by Jay firefighters, complained of right shoulder pain, Young said.

Wilton residents Loren Wentworth, 76, and his wife, Joan Wentworth, 80, complained of left-side pain and were taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital.

None of the injuries were considered life-threatening, Young said.

The accident happened at 2:14 p.m. at Stones Corner, a four-way intersection where Hyde Road and East Jay Road meet the Franklin Road, also known as Route 133.

Osgood was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Lumina west on East Jay Road and Loren Wentworth was driving a 2005 Chevrolet pickup south on Route 133 when the two vehicles collided, Young said.

The speed limit there on Route 133 is 45 mph, while the speed limit on the East Jay Road is 40 mph.

Young, who was assisted by Jay police Chief Larry White and Detective Richard Caton, said the accident remains under investigation.

“It’s a bad corner,” Young said.

Drivers entering Route 133 on the East Jay Road have better sight distance than those driving east on Hyde Road and those driving south on Route 133, which bends to the right at the corner.

Both vehicles were damaged beyond repair, he said. Traffic was limited to one lane by Jay firefighters.

NorthStar ambulance transported the injured.
