Issue: The General Assistance budget is running low.

The scoop: Town Manager Andrew Gilmore said 70 percent of the 2012 funds have been spent already. Of $10,000 budgeted, more than $7,000 has been spent. This time last year, even working with a smaller General Assistance budget, only 55 percent had been spent. He pointed to more requests for heating oil help.

Up next: Sabattus could see more demand still, down the road: The state notified the town that 13 families were being cut from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program.
