PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Maine Republican Party Chairman Charlie Webster says Mitt Romney has won the Maine caucuses by a slim margin, giving him a much needed boost following losses in three other contests in the past week.

The former Massachusetts governor defeated Ron Paul, the only other GOP hopeful competing in the state. Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich did not actively participate in the contest.

“I thank the voters of Maine for their support,” Romney said in a statement late Saturday. “I’m committed to turning around America. And I’m heartened to have the support of so many good people in this great state.”

Romney’s victory in Maine came just hours after he won the presidential straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Committee Conference and helped slow a skid that began earlier this week when he lost contests in Missouri, Minnesota and Colorado.
