JAY — Clinton Brooks announced Thursday that he is seeking election to the District 87 seat in Maine House of Representatives.

The district comprises the towns of Chesterville, Jay, Mercer, New Sharon and Starks.

Brooks, R-Jay, is a graduate of Jay High School and the University of Maine at Farmington as an English/history major in secondary education.

After graduating from college, he taught history classes in SAD 36 in conjunction with work at Washburn-Norlands Living History Center for three years.

In 1978, he opened a retail meat and seafood store, The Beef Barn, in Beans Corner. After losing the building to a fire in 1993, he began work at the Otis paper mill.

When Otis closed in 2008-09, he took a job with the Tranten Family Stores in Farmington as the meat department manager, where he currently works.

Brooks also owns and operates a food vending business: Clint’s Barbeque and Smokehouse.

He served three terms on the Jay School Committee and coaches high school softball at RSU 73.

“I feel the diversity of my education and work experience over the past 35 years has afforded me the opportunity to gain a broad awareness of the needs of the citizens of District 87,” Brooks said.

He has pledged to run as a Maine Clean Election candidate and welcomes $5 matching contributions in his name from any registered voter in District 87.
