BINGHAM — After a close contest that saw defensive pressure at its finest, Buckfield used a 8-4 run in the fourth quarter to squeak past Valley 24-23 in Western Class D prelim action Tuesday.

Kaitlyn Rines led the Bucks with 11 points, while Danielle Patrie chipped in with five.

The Cavaliers were paced by Hali McQuilkin with 12 points, while Teghan Lawyerson added five.

Mt. Abram 52, NYA 35

SALEM — Miranda Smith sparked a 20-4 run in the second quarter that allowed Mt. Abram to pull away to a 52-35 victory over North Yarmouth Academy in a Western Class C preliminary.

Smith netted eight of her 16 total points in that key second frame. Tori Bean chipped in for the Roadrunners with eight points, while Annie Dexter added seven.

The Panthers were paced by Morgan Scully with a game-high 19 points, while Charlotte Esancy chipped in with 13.

Waynflete 65, Lisbon 31

PORTLAND — Martha Veroneau lit the boards for 31 points, including 20 in the first half as Waynflete overpowered Lisbon 65-31 in Western Class C prelim action.

Veroneau pulled down nine rebounds, had four steals and made four assists. Leigh Fernandez chipped in with 14 points, while freshman sensation Helen Gray-Bauer added 10.

The Greyhounds were paced by Alexa Harmon with 13 points. Jessica Campbell also contributed with eight points.

Sacopee Valley 52, Telstar 31

SOUTH HIRAM — After a first quarter that separated the teams by only three points, Sacopee Valley poured on the steam and raced away to a 52-31 victory over Telstar in a Western Class C boys’ preliminary matchup Tuesday.

Senior Forward Jeff Taylor led the Hawks with 25 points, while Mike Anderson chipped in with 15.

The Rebels were paced by Danny Whitney and Dominic Haines with nine points apiece, while Nick Mills added eight.
