LISBON FALLS — The Pejepscot Sno Chiefs snowmobile club will hold the 19th annual “World’s Greatest Sleigh Rides” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, on Route 125 north of town. This is a charity event held each year to benefit Pine Tree Handicapped Society.

Members of the Farmers Draft Horse, Mule and Pony Club assist by bringing many teams and their sleighs to give sleigh rides through fields and woods. The horses are Belgians, Percherons, Shires, Halflingers, Fjords, Mammoth Jacks and others. The sleighs are from antiques to rebuilts to haul people.

The teamsters come from Anson, Sidney, Brunswick, Topsham, Monmouth, Sabattus, Stow, Biddeford, Damariscotta, Harrison, Albion, Peru, Chesterville, Canton and other places. The ride lasts about half an hour. Usually there are about a dozen or more teams with sleighs, some big, some small, so the waiting line isn’t too long.

Donations are $4 for adults and $3 for children, and all money goes to aid handicapped children to go to Pine Tree’s summer camp. Since starting the sleigh rides in 1994, more than $48,000 has been donated.

The snack shack will offer hot coffee, cocoa, hot homemade donuts, stews, hot dogs, soda and more.

Snowmobile rides are available also. Bring family, friends and camera.
