FALMOUTH — Donna DeWolfe Lucas, 78, died Monday, Feb. 13, in Falmouth surrounded by family.

She was born in Lewiston, April 1, 1933, the daughter of Pauline (Goss) and Cleon Y. DeWolfe. She was a 1951 graduate of Mechanic Falls High School, where she was the president of her graduating class.

Donna had a love of music from an early age and played the trombone in her high school marching band. On Friday, July 13, 1956, she married Bernard Lucas. They made their home in Falmouth, where they raised two daughters.

In her life, Donna experienced two things that many people can only hope for. First, on her honeymoon she attended her first major league baseball game which was a no-hitter at Fenway Park against the White Sox. Then, in May 1993, she scored a hole-in-one during a SMWGA State Day.

Having held many jobs over the years, her favorite position was that of a department manager for Ward Bros. After 10 years, she realized her work was interfering with her golf game. She retired and devoted her time to playing golf, golf and more golf. Donna and Bernie were longtime members at Purpoodock Club, where they made many lasting friendships.

They also enjoyed traveling to golf courses around the country including those at Hilton Head, Cape Cod and Palm Springs, Calif. During the off-season, she enjoyed playing Bridge with friends.

Donna loved attending Sea Dogs games as well as going to the annual picnic and pops concert, where she was famous for giving away her strawberry shortcake. She loved shopping, reading cookbooks as a hobby, dancing, traveling and spending time with her family. Donna will be remembered for many things including her love of cooking (in particular her peanut butter fudge), attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and spending time in the sun at the family camp on Tripp Lake.

Donna is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bernie; daughters, Stacie Lucas Johnston and her husband, Bryce, of Yarmouth and Shellie Lucas Howe of Poland; her grandchildren, Scott and his wife, Erin, of Nashville, Tenn., Kathryn and her husband, Zach, of Brunswick, Kelsie of Yarmouth, Jared of Auburn and Jamison of Poland.

She was predeceased by her parents; and her son-in-law, Brent Howe.
