ANSWER: There are several mentions of the Warriors online, which offer a few facts, including the following:

The Pine Tree Warriors, formed in 1959, was a senior marching and maneuvering corps based in Lewiston. An independent corps, they competed in the International Drum and Bugle Corps Association, and the New Hampshire, Connecticut and Maine A.A. Circuits.

The corps’ colors were Kelly green, gold, and white. They were known as Maine’s Marching Ambassadors.

Awards included the Maine VFW Championship in 1962 and 1963, and the American Legion State of Maine Championship in 1962.

Sites disagree about when the corps disbanded, some say it was still active at least through 1987, others that it ended in 1980.

Bert Dutil, who is listed as the director, addressed the Androscoggin Historical Society in 2008 on the Warriors. You can see listen to a video of that at http://tinyurl.com/7tlght5. Sun Spots previewed a few minutes of it, and there was sound, albeit a bit muffled, but no video.

Bert is still active in Lewiston veteran and community activities. Sun Spots imagines that as soon as he reads this he will be firing up his computer to share more details.

ANSWER: Looking Back is going strong. Sun Spots checked the paper for the day you wrote your email, and it was there.

The fact that your letter was emailed led Sun Spots to check online, and you are right. None of the columns since Feb. 10 went to the website. Turns out computers cannot be blamed this time. A human failed to set the date properly. Sun Spots has remedied that, and you can now catch up with all those columns.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m a volunteer with Rebuilding Together Lewiston-Auburn and am wondering if you could help us with finding homes to renovate this year.

RTLA is a nonprofit organization supported entirely by contributions of time, labor, material and money. We are dedicated to repairing homes of those who, due to financial hardship, age and/or disability, cannot do the work themselves. Skilled and unskilled volunteers alongside able-bodied members of the recipient’s family and friends complete the repairs at no cost to the homeowner.

The work is conducted on one weekend a year. This year that weekend is May 5.
