NEW VINEYARD — Richard and Glendalyn Hargreaves of New Vineyard celebrated 50 years of marriage on Aug. 26. A surprise party at the Homestead Restaurant in Farmington was given in their honor by their children, James and Rachelle Hargreaves of Old Town, Paul and Laurie Hargreaves of Rumford and Stephen Hargreaves of Madison. After the afternoon party, several guests stayed for a late evening dinner at the restaurant.

Mr. Hargreaves and the former Glendalyn Dunham were married at the New Vineyard Congregational Church on Aug. 26, 1961. For 41 years they lived in Windham and returned to New Vineyard in 2005. They both retired from the Windham School System, Mr. Hargreaves as a high school guidance director and Mrs. Hargreaves as a literary specialist.

Their youngest son, James Hargreaves, was toastmaster. Special toasts were also given by Irv Ouellette and Jackie Swain. Emma Hargreaves created a special video in their honor. Meghan and Kyle Hargreaves, their other grandchildren, sent special messages.

Family members and guests attended from Windham, Brunswick, Rangeley, Farmington, Jay, Topsham, Madison, Industry, Wilton, Dixfield and New Vineyard.

Original wedding attendants present were Marshall J. Swain, ring bearer, Kendalyn Ranger, flower girls, Jacquelyn Swain, bridesmaid and Sheridan Hargreaves and Stephen Swain, groomsmen.

The couple also celebrated their anniversary by vacationing in New Zealand.
