NORRIDGEWOCK — Firefighters say a second fire at a Norridgewock home heavily damaged the structure that had escaped an earlier garage fire with minor damage.

The two fires occurred eight hours apart.

Firefighters say they were first called to the River Road home at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday. That fire was caused by the improper disposal of smoking materials in the garage.

The house received minor smoke damage.

Just before 6 a.m. firefighters returned to the home after embers from a woodstove apparently ignited the floor.

Edward Hastings of the state Fire Marshal’s Office told the Morning Sentinel of Waterville the second fire “pretty well gutted” the house.
