OXFORD — Colin O’Neill of Oxford has announced his candidacy for House District 100, representing Oxford, Otisfield and Mechanic Falls.
That seat is presently held by Rep. James Hamper, R-Oxford.
In his news release announcement, O’Neill said, “The state of Maine has a problem: too many Mainers leaving the state for education, for jobs, for what they believe to be a better way of life.”
And, according to the Democrat, a recent University of Southern Maine study indicates roughly half of college-educated Mainers leave the state after graduation, taking their talents and education with them.
“This is why,” he said, “I’m announcing my candidacy for the State House of Representatives. . . . Whether it be welfare, education, jobs and the economy, or taxation, we can work together and resolve issues with an open dialogue and open minds.”
O’Neill intends to run his campaign without spending any money. He will not “accept any monetary donations or spend any money on the journey to Election Day,” O’Neill said.
He does intend to accept “in kind” donations of supplies to assist in the campaign process, and said “my campaign is going to focus on getting to the doors of the people in my district and making personal connections with all voters, regardless of party affiliation.”
