NEWRY — Four people were injured in accidents at local ski resorts this week and flown by medical helicopter to a Lewiston hospital.

Three happened Monday and Tuesday at Sunday River Ski Resort in Newry and were taken to Central Maine Medical Center. The fourth occurred Monday at Black Mountain of Maine in Rumford. Neither resort identifies their guests per policy.

On Tuesday morning, LifeFlight was sent to Sunday River for a woman in her 40s and a 40-year-old man, who were injured on North Peak trails, spokeswoman Darcy Morse said Tuesday by email.

The woman, who was on beginner trail Dream Maker, was said to have suffered head and leg injuries, she said.

“On assessment, it was determined that she had previous medical concerns and was on several medications that warranted her transport via LifeFlight,” Morse said.

In the other incident, the male skier was on Paradigm, an intermediate trail.

“He reportedly skied into snow-making equipment and ejected from his skis off trail into the woods,” Morse said. “He then got back on the trail, into his skis and skied down to the Aurora basin where he contacted (Ski) Patrol.

He complained of neck and spine pain, which increased,” she said, so he was flown to Lewiston.

On Monday, a 20-year-old man fell off a rail at about 12:52 p.m. in South Ridge Jib Park and may have struck his head, Morse said.

“He was temporarily knocked unconscious and experiencing seizures,” she said.

LifeFlight arrived at 1:29 p.m., and took him to CMMC as a precautionary measure. He was treated and released that night, Morse said.

Officials at Black Mountain did not return phone calls.
