JAY — Two men escaped injury Monday night when the truck they were riding in struck a utility pole, breaking it in half, on Davenport Hill Road, police Cpl. Jeffrey Fournier said Wednesday.

The driver, Wayne Labbe, 58, of Wilton, was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence of liquor, he said.

Labbe was driving a 2004 Ford pickup truck north to take his passenger, Christian Rapp, 50, of Jay home after a day of ice fishing.

The accident happened on a on a downgrade curve. Labbe lost control of the truck and it skidded off to the right and into the pole.

Neither man was injured, he said.

The truck was damaged beyond repair, he said.

Labbe was taken to the Franklin County jail in Farmington and was released on $1,500 unsecured bail, a corrections officer said.

He is scheduled to appear at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, April 19, at 12th District Court in Farmington.
