OXFORD – The Oxford Post Office building has drawn some interest since being put up for sale last year, an agent said.

The property at 98 Pleasant St. is owned by the estate of Elizabeth M. Robinson, according to her son and legal representative George B. Robinson of Otisfield. The asking price is $129,000.

Tom Rizzo, spokesman for the United States Postal Service in Portland, said this week that the U.S. Postal Service has a “year-to-year” lease on the building.

“If the landlord sells his building, the Postal Service will deal with the situation at hand,” he said.

The one-story building was constructed in 1965, has 1,900 square feet of space and sits on 0.2 acre. Taxes are $2,966 a year.

“It’s a unique property that needs a unique buyer,” David Depot, who is selling the property for the Better Homes and Garden Real Estate/Masiello Group, said. It’s had a little interest, he said.

He declined to elaborate on the terms of the lease.

If the building is purchased and the new owner refuses to continue the lease with the Postal Service, Rizzo said they would move operations to another post office on an emergency basis.

The Postal Service continues to study the Post Offices at Paris Hill and North Waterford for possible closure. Rizzo said a final decision on them is expected within the next 45 days or so, “barring unforeseen events.”

“As per a self-imposed moratorium and at the request of a group of U.S. senators and congressmen, no USPS facilities would be closed before May 15 to allow time for lawmakers’ deliberations over comprehensive postal reform,” he said.
