Crews from FairPoint Communications and Central Maine Power work on replacing a utility pole along Riverside Drive on Monday morning. Auburn police closed the road following a traffic accident.

AUBURN — Riverside Drive was closed for about 5 hours Monday after a utitlity pole was knocked over in a single vehicle accident involving a large SUV.

The road was reopened at about 12:20 p.m. but was still only one lane near the accident scene as utility companies remained  continue to make repairs.

Traffic flaggers were in place and Auburn police were urging motorists to use caution while driving through the area.

At 7:23 a.m., Auburn police announced the road near the Durham town line was closed due to a traffic accident with wires down.

Minor injuries were reported and a photographer who went to the scene said a Hummer had severed a utility pole and that police on the scene said the driver sustained minor injuries and damage to the vehicle was minimal.
