NORWAY — A Paris man was charged with burglary Tuesday after a homeowner chased him down on Pleasant Street, tackled him and waited for police to arrive.

Jonathan Bulliner, 22, was charged with burglary, theft, violation of condition of release and criminal mischief Tuesday morning after he was chased by Jack Day, whose home on Penn Road was broken into.

Bulliner also has warrants on charges of domestic assault, disorderly conduct and violating condition of release.

Norway police officer Robert Federico II said Bulliner was charged with possession of a usable amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, both civil charges.

According to Federico, carpenter Douglas Kilgore arrived at the home of Jack Day at around 8 a.m. Tuesday to talk to Day about work he’d done on Day’s home. Day wasn’t home, and Bulliner told Kilgore he was there to get items from his cousin.

Bulliner left the house on foot, walking down Pleasant Street toward downtown Norway. When Day and his wife, Stephanie, arrived shortly after, Kilgore told him what happened and Day realized he’d been the victim of a burglary.

Stephanie Day called the police while her husband and Kilgore chased after Bulliner.

Federico said that when he found Bulliner, Day had tackled him on Pleasant Street and was holding him down. Bulliner apologized to Day, and admitted what he’d done was stupid, Federico said.

He said Bulliner admitted to breaking in through the garage door. “He was, considering all things, quite cooperative,” Federico said. Bulliner took a coin collection, jewelry and a camera, Federico said.

According to Federico, there have been other break-ins in that neighborhood, including another burglary at Day’s home, but Bulliner denied any knowledge of those crimes.

Bulliner’s booking sheet listed his address as Warwick, R.I., but Federico said Bulliner describes himself as homeless and has been living with friends.

Bulliner was held at the Oxford County Jail on Tuesday and will appear in court Wednesday.
