LEWISTON — On Sunday, March 11, Auburn UU will screen Craig Saddlemire’s film, “Kids of the World.”
The film depicts children from around the world discussing, inventing, performing and re-enacting stories that take place in Lewiston’s Kennedy Park, where the film was shot and produced as part of the DEC summer camp program.
“This is my favorite way to make movies, through collaboration and self-representation” said Saddlemire, who has been making videos since 2005.
“We asked the youth to imagine themselves as the stars of the story. They told their stories through writing, drawing pictures and improvisation,” he said.
“I took all of their ideas and focused them into four separate stories that all take place in Kennedy Park and all interweave into one complete script,” Saddlemire added. “But all the major themes and ideas came from the group.”
Admission is free, but donations will be accepted for UNICEF’s emergency relief efforts for the drought and famine in the Horn of Africa.
The 30-minute presentation will follow a $5 chili cook-off from 11 a.m. to noon at the First Universalist Church of Auburn, 169 Pleasant St. For more information, call 783-0461 or or visit auburnuu.org.
