RUMFORD — During a recent school-wide assembly, Cam Welch, co-president of the Mountain Valley High School Student Council, announced that the Teacher of the Term is Chris Carver.
In presenting the award, Welch said, “This term’s teacher of the term is a dedicated faculty member. As an avid social studies teacher, he donates much of his time after school aiding students in government and advanced placement classes. As one of the senior class advisers, this teacher is essential to planning class night, graduation and project grad. I am pleased to announce the teacher of the term is Mr. Carver.”
When interviewed later, Carver said, “I was very surprised. I consider it a compliment when it comes from students since they are the ones with whom I work with on a daily basis.”
Carver joined MVHS 20 years ago as a social studies teacher. He currently teaches AP U.S. history, AP European history and government. Carver earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary social sciences from University of Maine at Farmington.
In addition to teaching, Carver is the president of the Western Foothills Educators Association, senior class co-adviser and social studies department head.
Outside of school, Carver spends time with his wife Deb, who is also a social studies teacher; his son Garrett, who is a junior at MVHS; and his daughter, Brooke, who is in sixth grade at MVMS. He coached Brooke’s travel team in basketball.
