LEWISTON — Rita N. Berube, 88, of Lewiston, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, at the Marshwood Nursing Home.

She was born in Lewiston, April 15, 1923, the daughter of Albert and Emerina Lachance Therriault. Educated in local schools, she was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1941. On Aug. 25, 1945, she married Raymond L. Berube, who passed away on Sept. 24, 2003. A member of Holy Cross Church, Prince of Peace Parish, she also belonged to the Holy Cross Bowling League and the Ladies Sodality. She enjoyed ceramics, puzzles, arts and crafts, crochet, bingo, and baking and cooking. She thrived on her role as mother and grandmother, and enjoyed “being in charge.”

Survivors include two sons, Ray and wife, Gina, of Lewiston and Ron and wife, Maria, of Lewiston; four daughters, Jackie and husband, Larry Bilodeau, of Lewiston, Patricia and husband, Charles Shoemaker, of Kansas City, Mo., Sandy and husband, Bill McQuaid, of Summerville, S.C., and Joyce and husband, Andy Crompton, of Lockbourne, Ohio; a sister, Doris Boisvert of Auburn; eight grandchildren, Jim Lemieux, John Lemieux, Bill McQuaid Jr., Sherry Bruening, Heidi Hale, Jackie McQuaid Jr., Sebastien Wallace and Mike Bolduc; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Lucienne Moreau.

The family thanks the staff of Marshwood Nursing Home for the loving care they gave her during her final illness.
