Recently, I saw a sign on Minot Avenue stating that Auburn enforces its traffic laws. Just what laws are being enforced? Certainly not speeding, texting, distracted driving, obeying traffic signals or stop signs.
A recent incident involved a van hitting a police cruiser. It seems that the van had run the light.
People are in a hurry and don’t have the time or courtesy to obey the laws. Laws are seen as just guidelines — people know no one is going to enforce them. Vehicles obeying the laws are just impeding their journey, an attitude many have that sometimes causes harm to others and themselves.
It seems there are sufficient police officers to start enforcing the traffic laws, which they must do before Auburn turns into another Tombstone, Ariz., of the old days, where the law was just words.
