EUSTIS — Incumbent Jane Wilkinson narrowly defeated Donald Plante, 45-43, for a three-year seat on the Board of Selectmen and incumbent Sue Fotter overwhelmingly defeated Jodi Caldwell for a three-year term on the SAD 58 school board at town meeting Saturday.

Melody Chase, Daphne Harp and Lori Lemont were re-elected to three-year terms on the Planning Board.

Moderator Peter Farnsworth announced the election results at the start of the meeting. It took one hour for about 60 voters to approve all 25 articles on the town warrant. The approved budget of $931,471 includes a $62,510 increase over last year’s budget.

A request to raise $12,000 for an electronic signboard for the community building generated some discussion but not much controversy. Harp noted her concerns about flashing lights disturbing the neighbors. Board Chairman Earl Wyman pointed out that he had talked with the neighbors who had no objection to the sign.

Other questions involved process and information. The $40,000 request for the Community Youth Program resulted in people scrambling to find information in the Town Report because there was no representative from the program present. According to the report, 103 youths participated in an eight-week summer camp. Wyman said out-of-town youths are charged to participate and that money goes into the General Fund.

Voters endorsed spending $6,500 on a Trio computer package for motor vehicle registrations; $206,498.91 for administration costs; $250,232 for protection including fire and ambulance service; $140,000 for the transfer station; $14,424 for the tar/summer road account; $110,000 for winter roads and $116,000 for summer roads.

Wyman pointed out that all tax-incentive financing funds from the Kibby Wind Project go into the General Fund and are allocated by vote at the annual town meeting. Next year, the town should expect $132,000, compared to this year’s $84,000, he said.
