I write with a very heavy heart in regard to the closing of Vineyard Christian School in Lewiston.

It is heartbreaking that my daughter, who will be a graduate of the class of 2013, will not be celebrating this achievement with the students and teachers of VCS.

VCS isn’t just any school; it is a school filled with love, kindness, morals and, most importantly, God. The school has done many amazing things with what it offers for academics and goes above and beyond to prepare its students for college.

The ethics, morals, compassion, generosity and faith that this school instills in its students is like no other. They are brought out into the community, our community, and they volunteer at places such as the food bank and the Root Cellar, giving a part of their heart and soul to those in need.

The students of VCS are loved and valued by their teachers. Vineyard School is a school that allows God to be a part of every aspect in its teachings and surroundings.

How many schools out there can boast that 100 percent of their senior classes will graduate? VCS can.

Parents of kids who attend schools like this should be given a tax break that will help them afford to send their kids to a school such as VCS. I don’t mean government funding to the school, just a tax break to the parents paying tuition.

The number of kids who would stay in school and graduate would surely increase.
