Fish fry
RUMFORD — Rumford Lodge of Elks 862 at 60 River St. is hosting a fish fry from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 9. Menu includes fish with fries, coleslaw and dinner roll. Take outs will be available. Public supper
MEXICO — A public supper will be served at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at the Mexico Congregational Church, UCC (the “Green Church”). The menu consists of roast turkey, stuffing, veggies, homemade rolls and pies. Adults, $8; children under 12, $3. Takeouts will be available at 5:30; call 364-8603.
Bottle drive
MEXICO — There will be a bottle drive on Sunday, March 11, to benefit Salena Sawtelle’s trip to the International Games in Australia. She will be representing the state of Maine. Bottles can also be dropped off at the bottle depot on Waldo Street and the Mexico bottle depot in Salena’s name.
Quilters meeting
RUMFORD — Rumford Area Quilters will meet Monday, March 12, at 6:30 p.m. at the Rumford United Methodist Church, Linnell Street. Come early to complete the quilter’s questionnaire.
Red, white and blue 12.5-inch rail fence squares continue to be collected. All area quilters welcome. For more information call 562-7050.
AmeriCorps info
MEXICO – In honor of AmeriCorps Week, local AmeriCorps member Samantha Lueloff will be conducting an AmeriCorps informational presentation at University College at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 14. This presentation is open to students, community members and anyone interested or curious about AmeriCorps, serving their community or earning a $5500 education award.
AmeriCorps engages more than 80,000 men and women in intensive service each year through more than 15,000 nonprofits, schools, public agencies and community and faith-based groups across the country. For more information, go to www.AmeriCorps.gov.
The presentation will be held in Room B at University College, 13 Brown St. and will last approximately half an hour with time after for questions. Lueloff is an AmeriCorps State member serving at Rumford Group Homes, Inc. under the Community Resource Corps AmeriCorps program, which is a division of Goodwill Industries of Northern New England and funded by the Maine Commission for Community Service. Lueloff will be available afterwards to talk one-on-one with anyone seeking additional information or resources.
