A RECORD DAY IN LEWISTON COURT.  A total of 23 arrests were made for intoxication over Sunday. None of the respondents were placed on probation as most of them were ordered to leave Lewiston. A 78-year-old city man foiled an attempted robbery Monday afternoon when he pointed an air rifle at the man trying to hold him up. Porter Clark of 9 Oak St. Auburn, told police he opened the door when his doorbell rang and a man stuck his foot in the door and pointed a black revolver, which Clark said may have been a toy.
“I reached behind the door and picked up my air rifle and pointed it in his face,” Clark said. “I figured I’d show him my gun since he was showing me his.” He said the man pushed the rifle away and fled.
